Xiaomi launched Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite



Xiaomi launched Mi A2 and a light version of its second generation Xiaomi Android One series, Mi A2 Lite.


Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite Android One-backed phones for the global market on Tuesday, July 24, in Spain. Xiaomi Mi A2 smartphones will be part of Google’s Android One platform, like the Mi A1. The devices have a metal unibody design with an arc structure that the company claims make it easier to hold the phones.  Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will come in Gold, Blue, and Black colour options. The battery has been optimised using AI to ensure it delivers day-long battery life, and the phone will get Google's new navigation system with the next software update.



Xiaomi today launched two new smartphones at its global event in Spain. These new smartphones are the Xiaomi Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite. While both devices are part of Google’s Android One program, they differ in terms of the design, specifications, and features.










The USP of the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite will be the fact that both these phones will run a stock version of Android and not Xiaomi's custom ROM MIUI. The port barely fits in the width of the smartphone forcing designers to make a U-shaped cut-out at the back of the device. The new smartphones are expected to come with multiple options, including 3GB and 4GB RAM and 32GB and 64GB of inbuilt storage. Both the smartphones will be getting get two years of assured Android upgrades on the software till Android Q. Overall, the Mi A2 is a much-improved version of the Mi A1. The phone comes with dual rear cameras, much powerful hardware setup, bigger battery and taller display. Alongside the Mi A2, Xiaomi, to celebrate its collaboration with Google for Android One program, has launched a toned down version of the Mi A2, the Mi A2 Lite for a starting price of 179 euros, roughly around Rs 14,500.
Google says Xiaomi Mi A2 will be one of the first devices to get the Android P. The update will be rolled out later this year. Google’s Android P brings a range of new features such as battery optimisation, notification snooze, and more. Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are expected to come in two colour options of pink and blue.

The Mi A2 being the pricier one of the two smartphones, features a 5.99-inch 18:9 display aspect ratio in Full HD+ resolution , Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor , paired with 4 GB RAM and 6GB RAM. The Xiaomi Mi A2  runs  Android 8.1 Oreo. The handset  also have 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the connectivity front. The higher 64GB storage Mi A2 model has been listed for RON 1,424 in Romania, which will translate to roughly around Rs 24,500. Under the Android One programme, Mi A2 will run stock Android which is expected to be Android 8.1 Oreo. It will also receive regular security and OS  upgrades. The smartphone is fuelled by a 3,010mAh battery. The smartphones also have the AI-powered dual camera setup, a staple for affordable smartphones nowadays. Mi A2 camera's 12-megapixel primary camera has 1.25-micron pixel size and a secondary 20 MP 2-micron 4-in-1 Super Pixel for better lowlight images; the aperture is f/1.75. The Mi A2 also has a AI-powered 20-megapixel sensor is in the front too, with a selfie light for better selfies. The phone will be able to deliver bokeh effect with a single selfie camera with the help of AI algorithms. MI A2 will also come with Google Lens integration.

 




Mi A2 Lite


Mi A2 Lite comes with a similar design as Mi A2. It features a 5.84-inch display with  a Full HD+ display with a notch ,19:9 aspect ratio. It’s 8.75mm thick, with storage maxing out at 64GB and RAM at 4GB.  It is supported with  upto 64GB of internl storage which can be expanded via microSD card slot. It has a fingerprint sensor on the back. Mi A2 Lite run Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with a rear dual camera setup. Mi A2 Lite is one of the few phones to come with Snapdragon 625 processor. It is powered by a 4,000mAh battery. On the back it has a 12MP sensor and 5 MP sensor. The camera comes with AI portrait mode, PDAF and other usual Xiaomi modes. The aperture of the primary lens is of f/2.2 .  the Mi A2 Lite supports  a 5MP sensor for selfies. Both the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite are capable of shooting selfie portrait pictures.


Prices and Availabilty


Xiaomi Mi A2 is priced at €249 (Rs 20,000 approximately) for the base model, €279 (approximately Rs 22,500), and €349 (Rs 28,000 approximately) for the top-end variant.
Moving to the Mi A2 Lite price, buyers will have to shell out EUR 179 (roughly Rs. 14,500) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant and EUR 229 (about Rs. 18,500) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option.
Availability starts this month, and Xiaomi says the phones will come to 40 countries; India is likely to be a priority, given that the Mi A1 was largely focused on that market. The Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will be available in India via its regular channels, online via Flipkart and Mi.com, and offline via Mi Preferred store.  The Mi A2 is coming to India very soon, possibly within a week or two weeks. The Mi A2 Lite is not coming, not right now. Although it is possible that Xiaomi may bring the Mi A2 Lite a few months later. Both the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite come in three colours models -- blue, black and gold.
