Huawei announced own Harmony OS

Huawei unveiled own Harmony operating system

Chinese tech giant Huawei has launched its own operating system namely the HongmengOS, known in English as the HarmonyOS. According to the company, a modularized HarmonyOS can be nested to adapt flexibly to any device to create a seamless cross-device experience. HarmonyOS will first come to smart screen devices later this year, and will be migrated to other devices such as wearables and car head units in the coming years.

The new operating system established by the Chinese Tech giant can be used across different devices from smartphones to smart speakers and even sensors. Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, said HarmonyOS will be available in China initially, with plans to expand it globally. "Harmony OS is completely different from Android and iOS," said Richard Yu, head of Huawei's consumer business group referring to operating systems developed by Alphabet Inc's Google and Apple Inc .

"You can develop your apps once, then flexibly deploy them across a range of different devices," he told a developers' conference held in Dongguan in southern China, where Huawei has built a lavish new campus modelled after European towns.
It is part of Huawei’s play in the so-called Internet of Things, which refers to devices connected to the internet. HarmonyOS is open-source, which means that other device-makers could theoretically use its operating system.

The OS will bring new benefits for consumers, equipment suppliers and developers. Consumers will receive intelligent decisions in all areas of life. The new operating system will help hardware suppliers move into an intellectual era where 5G, AI, and IoT will take it to the next level. The OS will also allow developers to attract more users with less cost and provide work for all scenarios.
