In daily life we were disturbed from many spam or unwanted
calls. Though last Friday, Google has introduced a new feature in Google Phone
app to detecting spam calls and automatically turn off calls.

Google started the Beta programme for the ‘Caller ID and
Spam protection’ feature on the Phone app in April this year. After many rounds
of testing, now the feature is readily available on the Phone app for all
users. The new feature routes the pesky or spam calls to your voicemail so that
you do not have to face unwanted encounters. The support page for the Phone app
also says “When you make or get a call with caller ID and spam protection on,
you can see information about callers or businesses not in your contacts or
warnings about potential spam callers.”
Google’s Phone app has a new feature that helps
significantly reduce the number of calls that will appear on your home screen.
You might still get a voicemail from them now and then, but that’s easier to
deal with than actually answering the call. The app now has a setting that will
detect spam calls and automatically send them to voicemail.
New Feature works on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above
The new features would work on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and
above. To use "caller ID and spam protection", the user's phone may
need to send information about their calls to Google. Caller ID and spam
protection is on by default, but users can choose to turn it off. The option to
turn it off are be available on the settings area of the Phone app. Once the
Google Phone App is installed, just go
to the settings menu and the Caller ID & Spam section. Turn on both “Caller
ID & Spam” (which warns you of incoming spam calls with a bright red
screen) and “Filter suspected spam calls.”
How to enable new feature in Google Phone app?
Þ
Open your device's phone app.
Þ
Tap More and then Settings and then Caller ID
& spam.
Þ
Turn Caller ID & spam on or off.
While some calls might slip through Google’s detection,
these can be reported as spam to help improve the system. Just go to the recent
calls section, select the call to be reported, and under the menu choose the
“Block/report spam” option.
The "caller ID and spam protection" app will be
able to detect and filter spam calls. Not only that, the app also eliminates
all notifications and alerts for those calls, according to an IANS report. Caller
ID by Google shows the names of companies and services with a Google My
Business listing. It also looks for matches in any directory that shows caller
information for work or school accounts. Of course, with the new ways in which
spam callers approach the issue, it is entirely possible that this new feature
might mistake a few spam calls as regular calls. Even in that case, Google
provides the user with an option to report numbers so that the filtration
process can be made better. Also, whenever needed users have the option of
turning the function on or off depending on their choice
The Phone app is now capable of automatically filtering out
calls detected as spam and sending them to voicemail, The Verge reported. If
the app detects the spam call, there won't be any ringing or notification to
alert you. It will be filtered without you knowing about it. You can find the
filtered calls in the call history.
